John Dewey
Our Early Years classes, designed for children aged 2 to 5, provide a nurturing environment where young learners begin their journey toward independence. We guide them in transferring their skills across different environments, helping them see how their learning applies not just in the classroom, but also at home and in the world around them. By connecting their experiences to everyday life, we lay the foundation for a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
A well-balanced curriculum and theme-based instruction help the young minds integrate their learning smoothly. The emphasis is on exploring, knowing, understanding and forming their own ideas. The principles of learning applied in Kindergarten include Holistic Development and Learning (Aesthetics and Creative Expression, Language and Literacy, Numeracy, Self and Social Awareness); Integrated Learning; Active Learning; Supportive Learning; Interactive Learning and Learning through Play. The curriculum prepares children for a smooth transition to a more formal Primary curriculum.
Care is taken to sensitively support the process of settling in and separation from parents, with awareness that the needs of each child and family will be different.
The Early Years Foundation Stage programme provides specific learning areas-
At Amitabha School, children aged 6+ begin their enriching journey into our primary school, where learning becomes a joyful adventure. Our primary school is thoughtfully divided into two key stages: Key Stage 1 (Grades I and II) for children between the ages of 6+ and 7+, and Key Stage 2 (Grades III-V) for students aged 7+ to 10+. Key stages are vital developmental phases in a child’s education. In Key Stage 1, we focus on nurturing the foundational skills built during the early years, creating a strong base for future learning. As students progress to Key Stage 2, they deepen their understanding, hone essential skills, and prepare themselves for the transition to the secondary level. Our engaging curriculum covers a variety of subjects including Math, English, Phonics, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), a Second Language (Nepali or Bhutia), a Third Language (Hindi), Environmental Science, and from Grade 4 onwards, Social Science and Science. Physical Education, Music, and Art are also integral, ensuring a well-rounded development. Co-curricular activities like Taekwondo, Music, Dance, and Art offer further opportunities for students to explore their passions and talents, fostering both creativity and discipline in a nurturing environment. At Amitabha, we believe in creating a holistic learning experience that equips children with the skills they need to succeed and grow with confidence.
Amitabha School’s addition of middle school grades VI to VIII, will continue our dedication to providing a comprehensive and enriching educational experience. This expansion reflects our commitment to nurturing each child's academic and personal growth, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges. With a team of our highly experienced teachers in their subjects, we aim to build upon the solid foundation established in the earlier years. Our educators are devoted to guiding students through these pivotal middle school years with care and passion, fostering both intellectual development and character building. At Amitabha, we remain dedicated to offering the best support for every child’s success.
In our middle school grades, Amitabha School remains focused on holistic development, balancing academic rigour with emotional and social growth. Our curriculum is designed to engage students in critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, while encouraging a love for learning.
